when you buy p3dv4 is it an update of all the other version or is it a new simulator based on the older version

and if you have plane compatible with p3dv4 are they compatible with older version like p3dv1

is p3dv4 similar to the other version or is it totally different

Some add-ons work but others they have to be compatible with P3d4.5.
Some developers offer free updates, other charge for upgrades.
